Originally hailing from the Garden State, Tom Barrett was a prevalent figure on both Jersey City and Hoboken music scenes for nearly two decades before relocating to East Nashville in 2023. Having played in a number of bands in a variety of musical roles, most notably the shoegaze trio Overlake, he finally decided to start writing and recording his own songs under his own name in 2011. The style of these songs reflect quieter, folkier influences such as Nick Drake, Lou Barlow and Elliott Smith, while his soft-spoken lyrics serve to explore themes of escape and longing while searching for beauty in the mundane. His latest record, Everywhere We Live, was released in October on Mint 400 Records.
