Jack Shields
Singer-songwriter Jack Shields has already made a name for himself as a working axeman, plying his craft as the touring guitarist for upstart folk rockers Richy Mitch & the Coal Miners, and fronting various indie-rock outfits in Nashville and Los Angeles. The first of three planned EPs in a series titled “Cherry Pick the Past”, his latest, Ultraviolet Heart was recorded almost entirely in Shields’s attic studio in Nashville. His ruminative songwriting has drawn comparisons to Neil Young, whose record Tonight’s the Night Shields cites as a major influence. Ultraviolet Heart, Shields’s first major release, has the verve of a bleeding-edge indie rock record but the soul of something older and wilder.
