Los Angeles based duo Holy Wars, composed of Kat Leon (Vocals) and Nick Perez (Guitars/Production), have a unique and constantly evolving sound that fuses an infectious medley of genres, packed with attitude and lyrical finesse.
Newly signed to Pale Chord via BMG, Holy Wars are excited to usher in a new era of ambitious music starting with their forthcoming single "Deus Ex Machina," available worldwide on August 30, 2023.
On "Deus Ex Machina," Holy Wars remain committed to their own personal evolution — this time incorporating heavier elements than ever before, as well as a fresh, cyberpunk-inspired energy. The rejuvenated sound of "Deus Ex Machina '' serves as a powerful canvas for Leon's dynamic vocal techniques over Perez's down-tuned guitar riffs and cinematic soundscapes.
"Deus Ex Machina was inspired by my love of psychology and how fascinating the brain is," Leon reveals amidst deep ruminations. "The term Deus Ex Machina meaning God from the Machine really helped shape the message of what I was wanting to say lyrically in this song and how our [own] personal narrative is powerful."
"We often rewrite our stories as the hero's tale but we very possibly could be the villain in another's. Our words are powerful and our story is our legacy. I wanted to display the "on the attack" side of the narrative, how any issue I have had with another has stemmed from projection, a choice and the power I allow it to have," Leon admits before summarizing, "Deus Ex Machina is a hard hitting wild sonic ride of the mania that lives underneath us all."
Recorded music aside, Holy Wars' live shows are an electrifying breeding ground that converts any first timer to a lifelong fan. Holy Wars take every opportunity to feed off the energy of the crowd and use it to amplify Leon's charismatic and fearless stage presence which has since allowed them to win over a wide range of audiences. It is no surprise that the band's high-intensity live performances have led the group to share the stage alongside legendary groups such as Coheed and Cambria, Alkaline Trio, and Papa Roach, to the next generation of up and coming rock artists including Wargasm, The Warning, Bob Vylan and Scene Queen.
In Spring 2023, Holy Wars hit the festival circuit for the first time, gracing the main stages at Welcome To Rockville and Sonic Temple while evaporating the indoor stage at So What?! Fest. This fall, catch their continued festival debut at Furnace Fest, Louder Than Life (main stage), and Aftershock.
